The excellent backing board produced by Planopack Belgium is already proven as a medium for displaying and packing smoked fish - as well as other food products.? However, hot smoked oily fish sometimes presents a particular problem in that the oils exuded from the product find their way into the board.

This can occur even when using "sized" board which has a guaranteed maximum moisture take up but is not resistant to the oil exudate.

The best solution in these instances?is to use a plastic board.? This still gives support to the product and good presentation but ensures your fish remains moist through storage and sale and the consumer reaps the benefit of all the effort you have put into producing the product.??

Additionally, as the plastic board absorbs none of the oil, the tare of the pack is not affected.
